does it seem like this league is gonna get REALLY funky after this year? I mean I just don't see how having backups of players that aren't on the same team of your starter is beneficial. Let's say I traded Peyton Manning but kept the 2nd and 3rd string Colts QBs. Now lets say the starting QB I traded for or acquired to replace Manning gets injured, now I don't have his backup, most likely the team I traded Manning to has him. Now I'd have to make another trade to get that guy, most likely having to give up someone else in addition to Manning's backup to get him. It just seems like unless you trade a particular starter's backup along with him its going to get waaaay too complicated for me. Also, I just don't see why I would ever want to bid on a player that's currently a backup. I don't think I explained that well enough but I just don't see how this is gonna work 2, 3, 4 years down the road.
Also, I'm completely baffled on how bye weeks are gonna work once our rosters get further and further apart from their real life counterparts...

I don't really agree with the point you're trying to make. You're saying that the league format is stupid because if a good player gets hurt, unless you have his backup, you're screwed. You could also get lucky and happen to own the backup of a stud you traded that got hurt.
All I'm saying is that it works both ways, and over time your luck should even out.
As for bidding on backups, Free Agency will be expensive simply because of the amount of cap space that some teams have, or have acquired. You may choose not to throw money at guys you don't believe to be worth their going rate.
I'm just not sure if the points you made are flaws in the system is all.

Granted, I've never been in a league quite this large (I'm in two separate 20-team dynasty leagues), but it's completely part of the strategy.
It's a risk you're taking if you trade for a player - that he'll get injured. If you only have one real starter at a certain position, you may want to draft a promising rookie at that position to cover injury potential.
As for bidding on backups, yes, there are plenty of backups that aren't worth signing, but if you're savvy enough, you may sign one that turns into a gem. Point in fact, until his breakout last year, Steve Johnson had just been a backup on the Bills, and not one that was a real coveted prospect (I'm proud to say I pegged him as a Super-Super sleeper and traded for him extremely cheaply in a few dynasties) - if the Bills had cut him in trying to make roster room before last year, you could now have a stud WR at an insanely cheap price.

There aren't going to be any bye weeks in future years I don't think. You'll just have to plan to not have a bunch of guys from the same team like in regular fantasy football. As for QBs, it's not that you are not allowed to try and get a 2nd QB (obviously gives you a good bargaining chip).. you are just encouraged to move that player on and trade him once both players are starting. And yes, backups are definitely a big part of this which I'm sure people will find out. Most big leagues with big rosters even in regular fantasy football have this component. |
