Free Agency
Signing Free Agents
A player not listed on any franchise’s Roster is a Free Agent.
When you decide there is a player you wish to add to your Roster from free agency, you will need to sign that player to a contract.
- As in real-life, sometimes players receive numerous contract offers. The player will ultimately choose the team that has offered them the most lucrative contract. The Average Annual Salary (AAS) of a contract will determine the most lucrative contract.
- We will employ an OPEN BIDDING PROCESS FOR ALL FA's THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY ON ROSTERS. The Average Annual Salary will be a flat AAS that each GM will have to pay each year throughout the life of the contract.
-To sign a FA, first post the players name in the Contract Offers Section along with an initial bid starting at $400,000 or higher for Restricted Players and $600,000 for all Unrestricted players. Once this is done, the player is now open for bidding to all 32 GM's.
-There will be no limit to how many times a GM can bid on 1 single player, we strongly suggest that each GM places bids that they feel will fit the salary structure of their team. Once you win a bid, that bid cannot be rescinded, so bid carefully.
-In order to win a player, no bid must have beaten out the highest bid within 24 hours. 24 hours must pass without a bid higher then the last bid for said player. There will be $100k increments for $5M or less bids, $250k from $5M-$10M bids, and then $500k for $10M or more bids.
-Upon winning a player, you can make the deal back-end heavy so that the later years are more than the early years. Each year must at least stay the same or go up. The contract can also not increase by more than 100% in a given season. For example, if the player is to make $5M in 2011/2012 based on the contract you are signing him to, his contract cannot be MORE than $10M in 2012/2013.
If you are only offering a 1 year deal, there is a maximum figure you can go and that is $15M. In other words, if you are to offer a Free Agent a contract worth more then an AAS of $18M, you must bid more then 1 year.
Also, a signed FA cannot be traded for at least 1 month in which he was signed.
Contract Expiration
- Each offseason, there are always a number of players who have had their contracts expire. These players naturally become free agents and, as such, are available to accept contract offers being made by other GMs.
* a real life contract transacted before Week 1 of the 2011/2012 season, a real life contract resulting from a franchised player, or a real life contract resulting from a restricted free agent signing in real life
* a contract won in the free agent bidding process

Franchise Tags
To protect against the loss of all free agents in a particular calendar year, a GM will be granted the ability to try and keep a player via Franchise Tags. Franchised Tags are to be used whether a real life or dynasty contract expire.
Note: Franchise Tags CANNOT be traded and you only get one per season that do not roll over.
- You will have the ability at the end of the year to name 2 franchised players sometime between the end of the prior season and before the next year's Real Life NFL Free Agency period begins. These players, although having their contracts in OUR LEAGUE, will not be eligible for free agency, and will be forced to sign with the same team. The franchise player will have to assume the real life contract he has (all years remaining) or if he is a Free Agent in Real Life as well, whatever real life contract he receives.
-In this case, "real-life" acts as an arbitrator of sorts in determining a fair market value for the player. This can either improve or hinder your team depending on how much the player signs for.
-If the new "real-life" contract puts a franchise over the salary cap maximum, the GM will receive a notice from the Commissioner’s Office after which time he/she will have 72-hours to correct the problem.
-Keep in mind, this is the only case in which a team may go over the salary cap, and the reason being, the salary for your current franchised player is yet to be determined.
Lifer Tags
-Lifer Tags are similar to Restricted Tags for players designated as Lifers (see rule 2 for details). If the player qualifies as a Lifer, the team will be able to tag them prior to Free Agency; there is no limit to how many they can use, but they must declare who they are tagging.
-If this player remains on the same franchise in our league as in real life (only applicable to players drafted in 2011/2012 or earlier) and upon entering unrestricted Free Agency that player resigns with that same franchise, the team in our league has the OPTION to keep that player with that real life contract.
-If the GM does not choose to take on the player's real life contract in full, he is awarded to the highest bidder per our Free Agency process with NO compensation given
Releasing a Player to Free Agency
- A GM has the right to waive any player to free agency. To waive a player and drop him to free agency, you must post the player's name that you are releasing in a new thread in the board titled "Player Releases". This will make permanent the decision to waive a player to free agency. Once posted, there is no turning back. A GM will still be responsible for half that players salary for the remainder of the season in which the player is dropped. At the end of that season, the GM will no longer be responsible for that contract, BUT, said GM will not be able to resign that player for a full calendar year OR until the life of his next contract. During the year in which you cannot resign said player, you are not allowed to trade for this player as well.
Retirement
If you sign a player to a contract and he retires you are not responsible for his contract and can immediately drop that player with no penalty.
